About us

Built by people who understand reading, and people who understand code

Lumira is made by the Lumira Reads team — seasoned educationalists and technologists who share one thing: a genuine passion for child education.

Who we are

The Lumira Reads team brings together two kinds of expertise that rarely sit in the same room: educators who have spent years teaching children to read, including children for whom reading does not come easily, and technologists who build the kind of software that has to work reliably for a child mid-lesson, not just in a demo. Every feature in Lumira passes through both lenses — is it grounded in how children actually learn to read, and does it hold up in the messy reality of a real reading session.

Why we built Lumira

Lumira started with two sons with dyslexia and a parent living in a different country from them — a shaky video call, guessing which word on the page they were stuck on, and both sides getting frustrated before they had really started. That gap between wanting to help and not being in the room is the reason Lumira exists.

What began as one family's workaround became a shared project once the wider team — the educationalists and technologists who now make up Lumira Reads — recognised the same gap in their own classrooms and families. Distance, timetables, and under-resourced support should not decide whether a struggling reader gets the practice they need.

What we believe
